While attending Clark Atlanta University and living with my father, after the completion of one year of college I decided to join the Army. I went to basic training and AIT at Fort Jackson’s SC. I became a 71L and spent my first duty station at Forth Monmouth, New Jersey. Other assignments include Germany, the Pentagon and Hawaii. After about 12 years my mother was diagnosed with cancer and I decided to leave the military and be there for my mom. My mom battled bladder and lung cancer. On January 11th 2017 she celebrated her 72nd birthday.
One of my current endeavors includes completing my book this year. After my 16 year struggle with cancer I decided to write a book about women in the military or Veterans that have fought the same battle and won. I was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time in 1998, cancer returned in my other breast in 2012 and in 2016 it reared its ugly head again. This time it came back as a five pound mass that attacked my ribs and lungs. This last fight is my motivation. Having to have 7 ribs remove, doctors building a new chest wall to cover my heart and lungs and using skin from my back to rebuild my flesh; I know my book must come out this year and it will. If you know anyone fighting the Battle or have fought the battle have them reach out to me

The best advice I can share with the audience is very simple…”Live as if you believe it’s your last day”
